Akumal, the Original.  Akumal is a small beach community located along a mile and half stretch of coastline that encompasses two beautiful bays.  Akumal Bay, which is basically the commercial center of Akumal, with gently sloping white sandy beaches, and Half Moon Bay where you will find most condominiums.  Half Moon Bay is never crowded.  The beach is soft white sandy turning rocky as you enter the water.  Half Moon Bay is great for snorkeling with coral, sea turtles, and many species of tropical fish.  May through September, Akumal's beaches, especially Half Moon Bay, are important turtle nesting grounds.

Within Akumal you will find a variety of accommodations including luxury villas, vacation homes, well equipped condominiums, and hotel rooms.  There is something here for almost every budget.

Also located within Akumal are restaurants, grocery stores, a laundry service, gym and wellness center, dive shops and of course, the world famous, Turtle Bay Cafe.

Akumal is punctuated by Yal-Ku Lagoon.  Yal-Ku is much loved by all who live and vacation in Akumal.  It offers a great place to plunge in to clear water and cool off and is also wonderful for snorkeling.  There are many vacation rental homes located along the edge of Yal-Ku Lagoon.

Akumal is also home to one of Mexico's oldest dive shops, The Original Akumal Dive Shop located on Akumal Bay has a longstanding reputation for professionalism and quality customer service.  You can also check out the Akumal Dive Center at the South End of Akumal Bay.
